Hardware

Motion system

Tilting print bed

Three lead-screw-driven Z-axes tilt the bed up to 45°. Angled walls, curved surfaces and overhangs can be printed in one piece, with layers that follow the part.

Overhangs are printed from the side instead of built up in mid-air. Many parts need no supports at all.

Extended nozzle

The heat block is replaced with a narrower linear design and an extended nozzle. Less collision risk, better reach on the tilted bed. Nozzles are swappable by hand, no tools needed.

Leveling

Direct nozzle bed leveling

The nozzle probes the bed itself and builds a height map. Tilt is corrected automatically, so the first layer goes down evenly without manual leveling.

Chassis

Fully enclosed aluminium frame

The fully enclosed aluminium frame is rigid and steady. It holds temperature stable, blocks drafts and dust, and dampens noise.

Filament oozing from the Melta MK1 hotend nozzle
Sensors

Filament detection sensor

The sensor watches the filament path from spool to extruder. It loads and unloads filament automatically and pauses the print when the spool runs out or a tangle starts to form. An LED indicator shows filament status at a glance.

Software & control

Customized Klipper firmware, coming soon Firmware

Customized Klipper

An upgraded, customized Klipper firmware drives the non-planar motion system.

Non-planar slicer, coming soon Slicer

Non-planar slicer

Standard slicers can't curve layers. The MK1 ships with a customized slicer capable of multi-planar and true non-planar slicing.

4-inch capacitive touchscreen, coming soon At the 3D printer

4-inch capacitive screen

A 4-inch capacitive touchscreen gives you full control at the printer: responsive and readable.

Remote control interface, coming soon From anywhere

Remote control interface

Start, monitor and stop prints over the network with the remote control interface. No SD card shuffle required.

Our story

Our origin

Melt3D began as Hugo Toscher's high school entrepreneurship project. Inspired by the 3D printing community, he set out to build a printer designed for non-planar printing from the start.

Our mission

To make non-planar printing affordable and approachable for everyone, from experienced engineers to people printing their first part.

The team

Four people cover mechanical, electrical and software engineering and marketing. Between them they design and build the Melta MK1 and bring it to market.
